Travis becomes majestic with “The Cactus Jack Royal”
The collaboration between Nike and Travis Scott completely flipped the sneaker game upside down. Reviving silhouettes such as the Nike Air Force 1 and the Jordan 4, the collab reached its peak with the release of the Jordan 1 High ‘Cactus Jack’. This shoe was arguably the highlight of 2019, with resell value shooting through the roof and Instagram feeds being flooded with fitpics.
Along with the Jordan 1 hype in the last years, sneakerheads started searching for quality and heritage, while still being able to rock an aesthetic AJ1. What better solution to this problem than the iconic 2014-released fragment design x Air Jordan 1? Marking the first collaboration between the Japanese imprint by designer Hiroshi Fujiwara, this shoe combined royal blue and black tones with premium-quality leather and an embossed fragment design logo on the heel. With increased demand and low release quantities, many see this silhouette as their ultimate ‘grail’,
Now, after being spotted wearing a new colourway back in December 2020, detailed images have arrived of what was only speculated by drooling sneakerheads: the fragment design x Travis Scott x Nike Air Jordan 1 in the “Cactus Jack Royal” colourway! A perfect fusion of the two sneaker moguls’ heritage, the shoe combines the controversial, yet aesthetically powerful reverse Swoosh from ‘La Flame’, as well as the premium tumble leather in the colorway that brought Hiroshi Fujiwara’s sneaker its glory.
Sneaker-leak frontier @spicychickenwings provides us with a sample version of the soon-to-be released shoe, giving us a more detailed look as compared to the low-quality paparazzi images of La Flame wearing the shoe himself back in January. The embossed brandings of both Travis’ Cactus Jack and fragment design’s notorious lightning bolt confirm this three-way collab between La Flame, Hiroshi and Nike Jordan Brand.
Arguably, the collaboration may be ‘too much’ for some sneakerheads that are unhappy with the blend of heritage. Many OG fanatics have been disappointed by Nike’s more recent strategies seeing large-scale releases of hyped, but classic silhouettes, such as the SB Dunk and the Air Jordan 1 itself. Merely combining two of the most successful models of the past era into one new sneaker to keep the hype going will surely upset some collectors.
Nevertheless, this shoe will see incredible hype, due to the unexpected, but already iconic collaboration between two of the greatest influencers in the fashion world.
While no release info is available just yet, the fragment design x Cactus Jack x Nike Air Jordan 1 “Cactus Jack Royal” is set to release globally in 2021. Make sure to subscribe to our newsletter below for updates and info on the latest releases and trends!
